Terms of Use

Last updated:

These terms are an agreement between you and Freecation about the Freecation app and website. By using Freecation you agree to them, together with the Community guidelines and the Privacy Policy. Creating a Community account asks you to accept them explicitly.

The short version

  • Freecation is a simulation: nothing is booked and nothing is charged.
  • AI-written postcards and destinations are for fun and can be wrong.
  • Real bookings happen on partner sites, under their terms. We may earn a commission.
  • Zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users in the Community.
  • You must be 13 or older to create a Community account.

1. Who can use Freecation

You must be at least 13 years old to create a Community account. If you are under 18 (or the age of majority where you live), you need a parent or guardian’s permission. You can’t use Freecation if the law where you live forbids it.

2. Freecation is a simulation

  • Dream Checkout doesn’t reserve anything and never charges you. Boarding passes, seats, gates and confirmation numbers are made up and are not valid for travel.
  • Trip values and prices are estimates. Real-world details we show, such as weather, fares, hotels, tours, ratings and opening status, come from third parties and may be wrong or out of date. Check with the provider before you book or travel.

3. AI-written content

Postcards, “anywhere” destinations and real-place research can be written by AI (see the Privacy Policy). AI output can be inaccurate, invented or out of date, and invented destinations are fictional. It’s for inspiration and fun, not travel, safety, health or legal advice.

4. Booking for real: partner sites

“Make it real” and “Book it for real” open third-party sites such as Aviasales, Booking.com, Viator, GetYourGuide and Google Flights. Anything you book there is between you and that company, under its terms, prices and policies. Freecation isn’t a travel agent and isn’t responsible for their services.

Affiliate disclosure: some of these links are affiliate links, so we may earn a commission when you book, at no extra cost to you.

5. Your Community account

  • An account is a handle and an avatar. There is no email or password: the app keeps a sign-in token on your device. Keep your device secure. If you lose the device or delete the app, the account can’t be recovered.
  • One person per account. Don’t share accounts or create accounts to get around a ban or the rules.
  • Handles must follow the Community guidelines. We may change or remove a handle that impersonates someone or breaks the rules.
  • You can delete your account at any time in the app (see Support).

6. Your posts

You keep ownership of what you post. To run Freecation you give Freecation a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, display, reproduce and distribute your posts, handle and avatar in the service, including in share links and their previews, and to format them for different screens. The license ends when you delete the post or your account, except for copies other people already shared. You promise you have the right to post what you post and that it follows these terms.

7. Zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users

There is no place in Freecation for objectionable content or abusive behavior, including hate, harassment, threats, sexual content, scams and impersonation. The Community guidelines list what’s not allowed and how moderation works. You can report any post and block any user in the app; we review reports within 24 hours. We may remove content and suspend or ban accounts that break these terms or the guidelines, with or without notice.

8. Acceptable use

Don’t:

  • break the law, or help anyone else break it;
  • harass, threaten or impersonate anyone, including Freecation and its staff;
  • use bots, scripts or multiple accounts, trade or fake votes or “inspired” claims, or otherwise game points, levels, badges or the leaderboard;
  • scrape the service, overload it, get around rate limits or security, or use our API outside the Freecation app and website;
  • use the AI features for anything other than planning and enjoying dream trips;
  • use share links, posts or handles to pose as Freecation or to promote offers, giveaways, prizes or other businesses;
  • copy, modify or reverse-engineer the app, except where the law allows it.

9. Points, levels and badges

Points, levels, badges and leaderboard ranks are just for fun. They have no cash value and can’t be sold, traded or exchanged for anything. We may recalculate, adjust or remove them, for example when they come from gaming the rules. If we ever run a contest or prize, it will have its own official rules.

10. Freecation Plus

  • Plus is an optional auto-renewing subscription, sold and billed by Apple through the App Store. The price, the length of each period and any free trial are shown before you confirm.
  • Payment is charged to your Apple account when you confirm. Plus renews automatically, and your account is charged for the next period within 24 hours before the current one ends, unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before it ends. Manage or cancel any time in your Apple account settings; you keep Plus until the period you paid for ends.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies.
  • Plus features use AI and have fair daily limits. If AI is briefly unavailable, Plus features may fall back to the free versions. What Plus includes may change; we’ll describe changes in the app.
  • Plus doesn’t change section 2: trips in Freecation are still simulations.

11. Freecation’s content

The app, website, design, art and text are owned by Freecation or its licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use them for your own non-commercial use under these terms. Photos belong to their authors and are shown under their licenses, with credits; place information belongs to its providers.

12. Ending your use

You can stop using Freecation at any time and delete your account in the app. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, to protect other people or the service, or if we stop offering Freecation. Sections 6 (for content already shared), 9, 11 and 13 to 16 continue to apply after that.

13. Disclaimers

Freecation is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties, express or implied, including that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free or accurate, or fit for a particular purpose. Some places don’t allow these exclusions, so some may not apply to you.

14. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, Freecation isn’t liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or bookings, arising from your use of Freecation or of partner sites. Our total liability for any claim about Freecation is limited to US$100. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The version and date at the top change when we do. If a change is material, the app will ask you to accept the new version before you keep using the Community; if you don’t agree, you can delete your account.

16. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the place where Freecation is established, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, except where the law where you live gives you the right to rely on its own consumer protections or courts.

17. If you got Freecation from the Apple App Store

  • These terms are between you and Freecation, not Apple. Apple isn’t responsible for the app or its content.
  • Your license to the app is limited to Apple-branded devices you own or control, as the App Store terms allow.
  • Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
  • If the app fails to meet a warranty that applies, you can notify Apple, which may refund the purchase price (the app is free). Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
  • Apple isn’t responsible for claims about the app, including product liability, legal or regulatory compliance, consumer protection or intellectual property claims; Freecation is, to the extent these terms say so.
  • You confirm you aren’t in a country under a U.S. embargo and aren’t on a U.S. list of prohibited parties.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
